The Elder Friendly Community Network

Welcome to the Elder Friendly Community Network (EFCN)

EFCN is a community movement of representatives from academic, non-profit, public and private sectors who are committed to serving elders in Greater Victoria.

If you serve elders, or you are an elder, we invite you to join us at our monthly meetings to learn and connect with like-minded people who have a heart for serving seniors.

You’re invited to our next meeting. Your service and perspectives would be a welcome addition to our community, and you will in turn gain vital knowledge and support from us.

After you look over our website, simply click on the “Become a Member” link in the top right corner and sign up to receive the monthly meeting invitations. Your mail will not be used for any other purpose.

Why Have An Elder Friendly Community?

We value, respect and make efforts to enhance the contributions seniors make in our community. Elders are our teachers. They are our mothers and fathers and friends who provide wisdom and experience. And they need us. They face health issues, financial issues and transportation needs. They need updates about social and legal changes that affect them. They require emotional support when faced with life changes like the loss of loved ones or a move.

We're proud to serve our elders as they have served us for so many years. If you feel the same way, we welcome you.

All Good Things Must Come to an End

We on the Planning Committee are proud to have helped navigate EFCN through 13 years of 117 planned meetings for over 500 community members. We provided vital information on a wide array of topics, as well as opportunities for our members to network with the people and organizations that serve elders in our community.

And so, it is with sad hearts that we’ve decided to discontinue EFCN’s monthly meetings.

There are numerous reasons: The Wellesley is no longer able to host meetings in their excellent venue, many members on our Planning Committee need to step down, and not enough new members are able to step up.

We also recognize changes in how we consume information today. Most of us now go online to find answers and resources we need, and it grows ever more challenging to take time out of our busy schedules for meetings. Ironically, we recognize it takes face-to-face meetings to build trust, and it’s unfortunate we will no longer be able to provide that opportunity.

For those of us who made it out to the last meeting, we were rewarded by an inspiring presentation by Susan Simmons. We ended on a high note.

Thank you all for your years of support for EFCN, your large hearts and your essential work with elders in our community. Keep up the vital efforts and keep connecting with each other.

Wishing you a Fond Farewell and the Best of the Christmas Season!
