Growing Old is (NOT) Scary: How Ageism Gets in the Way of Healthy Ageing
Research indicates that stereotypes about ageing, like a self-fulfilling prophecy, affect the choices older adults make regarding their health and social connections. With the help of a 90 something year old social activist, Kirsten has compiled a list of the myths of ageing. This workshop will examine the mechanisms by which those myths impact our health and offer positive reframes to counter the damage. Our time together concludes with the importance of staying connected, living life with purpose, and ultimately – defying the ageist myths.
Kirsten is a social worker with over twenty years’ experience working all over BC in a variety of roles, including counselling, community development, and advocacy. After a career spent working for non-profit organizations, Kirsten Mueller, MSW RSW recently left her position providing outreach support to seniors and adults with disabilities to start her own private practice: Rainstorm Counselling & Consulting.
